How this website was built

The Joomla! CMS was used to build this website. Joomla! is free software but the site also uses some additional commercial Joomla components.

These are JomSocial, which was used to create the community aspects of the site and TP Dugg from TemplatePlazza, which powers the "links" section.Although a number of separate pieces of software have been used, they have been chosen partly for their ability to integrate with JomSocial, so that readers and staff can use a single identity for every aspect of the site.

The site theme is Somaxion, from Rockettheme.

The site also uses a range of free extensions including the Kunena forum and a range of plugins such as one which provides a list of tags and related links at the end of stories. The "share this" module which appears on article pages is one I wrote myself.
